The S.O.M.A Process
Sense.Open.Move.Awaken®
Experiential Somatic Psychotherapy
The S.O.M.A Process will awaken what was once unsafe to feel.
About the S.O.M.A Process
The S.O.M.A Process
The Method is grounded in the science of the somatic nervous system (Polyvagel Theory) and includes four experiential somatic interventions, which when combined, re-pattern nervous system based adaptive patterns.
Sensing
Learn to drop down into the roots; into the implicit felt sense through sensory activation, awareness and interoceptive somatic tracking.
Opening
Learn to open ventral vagel, relational felt states of safety with another accessible other. Expand ones neuroception of safety by attuning to sensory grounding, relational compassionate connection and non-resistance.
With increased neuroception of safety, non-resistance and opening of protective defenses naturally occurs.
Moving
Suppressed mobilization is activated using movement, tapping, gentle shaking, sighing, sounding, humming, bi-lateral stimulation, yoga poses, and breathwork.
Awakening
The process concludes by applying and integrating felt sense of safety into present day life.
Protective patterns surrender and authenticity emerges.
To integrate is to awaken to ones wholeness. The brain reorganizes and uploads new neural-pathways and ventral vagel states of social engagement and ease become dominant.
The S.O.M.A Process
Parts Work & Mindfulness
Use guided inner-child meditation to access present moment awareness of protective, shadow, and adult "parts' (IFS).
Neuro-Linguistic-Programing
Include activating phrases to take you deeper into processing.
Somatic Practices
Learn tapping, qi-gong, bi-lateral stimulation, shaking, sounding and release practices.
Breathwork
Use rhythmic breathing and breath-holds to calm, elevate, and integrate emotions.
Personality & Polyvagel Theory
Use trauma and attachment style informed Polyvagel theory to rewire protective personality patterns.
Sensory Tracking
Use Gendlin’s Felt Sense protocol to deepen interoceptive awareness.

Enjoy 8 Video lessons combined with written experiential guidance. Learn how to apply each phase of the S.O.M.A Method in addition to developing a deeper understanding of several common adaptive personality patterns (control, perfectionism, manipulation, addiction, codapendency, and collapse). Special attention and explanation is given to Stephen Porges Poylyvagel Theory, focusing on how ones neuroception of threat or safety underlies each pattern.

S.O.M.A
Sense.Open.Move.Awaken®
The Process will guide you to Cycle from mind into body through the felt sense, where adaptive patterns and emotions begin to awaken.
Words transition to somatic listening and expression; the nervous system attunes to safety as communication occurs through sound, breath, emotion, gesture.
S.O.M.A invites surrendering into deep states of belonging, inviting the organic emergence of suppressed emotion, the softening of protective survival patterns, and the awakening of authentic (ventral vagel) states of belonging and relating.
